Advantage+ campaigns on Meta: what they automate, and what stays with you

Advantage+ lets Meta choose the audience, placements and budget split. What it does well, its limits, and the three settings that stay firmly in your hands.

Advantage+ is the name Meta gives its automation options. An Advantage+ campaign hands the algorithm what used to be set by hand: who sees the ads, where they appear, and how the budget is split between them. Meta now offers this setup right from campaign creation for sales, leads or app campaigns.

Advantage+ holds the wheel. The destination is still yours to choose: what you count as a conversion.

What it automates

  • The audience. Instead of defining interests, you let Meta find the people most likely to convert. You can give it suggestions, but it can go beyond them.
  • Placements. Facebook feed, Instagram stories, Reels, Messenger: Meta places the ad wherever it costs least for the target result.
  • The budget. Split automatically between the ads that perform best.
  • Some creative enhancements. Crops, text variants, music. Worth watching: they don't suit every brand.

Why it often works

Meta's algorithm sees signals no manual setting can reproduce. With broad audiences and reliable conversion tracking, it often finds buyers you wouldn't have targeted. It fits how Meta has evolved: today the creative does the targeting, far more than the boxes you tick. Andromeda and your creatives.

Its limits

It learns from what you report. If your tracking counts a simple click on the form as a conversion, Advantage+ will look for people who click, not people who sign.

It can wander outside your area. For a local business, the automatic audience must stay framed by the geographic area. Geographic targeting on Facebook.

It needs volume. With a few conversions a month, learning is slow and results unstable.

It can retarget your existing customers. Without exclusions, part of the budget goes to people who already know you and would have bought anyway.

The three settings that stay with you

  1. The target conversion. That is the destination. A quote request sent, a call, a confirmed purchase: the closer the signal is to the sale, the better the campaign searches. The conversions API helps report reliable signals.
  2. The creatives. Advantage+ only distributes what you give it. Several videos, several hooks, renewed regularly: that is your real lever. Six hook mechanics.
  3. The frame. Area, existing customer exclusions, budget. The guardrails the algorithm won't choose for you.

How I use it

I use Meta's automation widely, because it works when tracking is clean and videos are good. My work then shifts to what stays human: choosing what we measure, producing the videos, and reading every week what the campaigns really bring in.
